Whether hiking and biking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, fly fishing and kayaking around Chesapeake Bay, or seeking out a quiet glamping getaway on the outskirts of Richmond, Virginia is full of great glamping destinations. For the full glamping experience, choose a spot that combines the comforts of home—a queen-sized bed, kitchenette, and wifi—with camper favorites such as a hot tub, hammock, and a fire pit for toasting s’mores. Go glamping in a tipi by Sandy River's Adventure Park, cozy up in a treehouse with easy access to the hiking trails of Shenandoah National Park, or rent a glamping tent near the Appalachian Trail in Luray. Glamping is also possible in several Virginia State Parks—yurt rentals come with mountain views at Grayson Highlands State Park or beach access at First Landing State Park, just outside Virginia Beach. There’s even a luxury yurt with air-conditioning at Kiptopeke State Park.

In Virginia, glamping is a type of outdoor stay combining camping's nature setting with the luxury and convenience of comforts like beds, warm showers, or electricity. When glamping in Virginia, there's no need to bring your own tent—instead, glampers may stay the night in a cabin, a vintage Airstream, a canvas bell tent, a yurt, or even a treehouse.

Natural Bridge Station, VA · 25 sites · Tents, RVs, Lodging

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space.

Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life.

All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.

We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

Welcome to Big Dipper Ranch

Come escape to Big Dipper Ranch, where comfortable glamping, mountain views, and incredible stargazing come together in the foothills of the Shenandoah Mountains.

I first visited this property 19 years ago. One look at the magnificent Sugar Maple in full autumn color, and I knew I had found someplace special. Today, I’m fortunate to call these 23 acres home—and I love sharing this little piece of Virginia with our guests.

Settle into one of our four comfortable, beautifully furnished glamping tents and enjoy a slower pace for a few days. I enjoy personally welcoming guests when they arrive, then giving you the privacy and space to make the property your own—whether that means relaxing by the pond, watching the stars, enjoying a quiet morning coffee, or simply doing absolutely nothing.

And when you're ready for adventure, you're in the perfect place.

Old Rag Mountain and Whiteoak Canyon are only about 15 minutes away, putting some of Shenandoah National Park’s most beautiful hiking practically in our backyard. You'll also find wineries, breweries, orchards, canoeing, fishing, and miles of beautiful Virginia countryside nearby.

Or you may decide you don't want to leave the ranch at all.

Spend a warm afternoon swimming in our cool, spring-fed pond, try your hand at fishing, wander the property, or simply sit back and enjoy the mountain views. When evening arrives, build a fire, settle into your chair, and look up—the dark skies here can put on quite a show.

Big Dipper Ranch is close enough to Etlan and the surrounding area for necessities and local adventures, but far enough away to feel like you've truly escaped.

Come hike, explore, swim, stargaze—or simply slow down for a while.

If you have any questions before your visit, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to welcoming you to Big Dipper Ranch.

Nestled in the breathtaking Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia, hens, ducks, bees, Great Pyrenees, and cats pastorally roam over 18 acres of rolling farmland and forest. Experience our favorite parts of Stormbrew Farm through a primitive camping experience.

Learn more about this land:

An agrarian dream - a literal field of possibility. With 18 acres to choose from you may find yourself sleeping along the lazy Fifteenmile Creek, atop a hill under Virginia stars, or even set up with pastoral views of hens and Great Pyrenees dogs.

The roadfront side of our property offers level terrain for pull-behind trailers, while vehicles (preferably 4WD) and tent campers can travel all the way back to the creek. Feeling froggy? Ford the stream and camp in the large field on the other side. Be sure to mind the animals and fields, as this is a working farm.

One mile down the road from the farm is the Virginia Creeper Trail, renowned for biking, but as a multi-use trail, you can also enjoy walking, running, horseback riding, fishing, cross country skiing, and geocaching.

South Holston Lake is only minutes away by vehicle, with two public access boating ramps 10 to 20 minutes away.

Access to the Appalachian Trail is only 20 minutes away in Damascus.

We became caretakers of this lovely property in June of 2021, moving from our existing farm, 45 minutes away. When we got it, it was a blank slate of a hayfield, and we have spent the summer laying infrastructure so that we may grow our cut-flower, honey, and vegetable business.

Welcome to Arcadia Sanctuary

An 83-Acre Mountainside Retreat for Earth-Based Spirituality in Central Virginia Arcadia is our beloved sanctuary for earth-based spirituality, nestled on the southeastern slope of 4,000-foot Mount Pleasant in Central Virginia. Conveniently located near I-81, Arcadia offers a secluded, nature-immersed experience—just a short drive from the modern world, yet miles away in spirit.

Please note: There is a town called Arcadia off I-81, but we are not located there. Be sure to follow our directions carefully.

A Living Landscape of Forest, Water, and Wildness

Our land features a flowing mountain creek with waterfalls, towering Beech and Sycamore trees, and Witch Hazels leaning gracefully over the water. You'll encounter trout, crayfish, salamanders, snakes, and the full chorus of mountain wildlife.

With nearly 2,000 feet of vertical mountainside, Arcadia offers trails to explore and camping options ranging from creek side convenience to secluded mountain hideaways. While most of our gathering areas are near creek level, higher sites are available for those seeking solitude—just be prepared for a bit of a hike to the bathrooms, showers, and fresh water.

A Natural Amphitheater for Music and Gathering

Arcadia is home to one of the finest private stages on the East Coast. Our natural amphitheater—shaped like a pie wedge carved into the mountainside—hosts live performances throughout spring, summer, and fall. With a top-quality sound system and stunning surroundings, it’s a magical venue for music, ceremony, and celebration.

Stay With Us: Yurt Glamping, Tent Camping & More

Our beautiful yurt is available for rent and offers a unique glamping experience surrounded by nature. For traditional campers, we offer multiple campsites near the creek, as well as more remote locations higher up the mountain.

Every stay includes access to the shared amenities: bathrooms, hot showers, fresh water, and community gathering spaces.

Meet the Arcadia Community

Arcadia is alive with more than just trees and streams. You’ll share space with our free-roaming flock of chickens, ducks, turkeys, and guinea fowl, along with two friendly dogs, nine curious cats, and the human stewards who live and care for this land year-round.

Pamplin, VA · 19 sites · Tents, Lodging

The Farm was originally named 2nd 4o by my parents. They planned to live the 2nd forty years of their lives together on the farm. My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. This did not last long :) but the saplings my dad planted by hand are still here & maybe 70' tall!

Then my husband & I bought The Farm in 2017 for the 2nd forty years of our life & my parents built their little house right here. My husband and I immediately knew that our dream was to grow a different kind of "tree", so in 2019 we were among the first group to receive our license to grow hemp. We are passionate about both the hemp and cannabis plants!

In 2020 when it finally became legal to grow cannabis, we immediately added that to our garden as well and 2nd 40 to 420 was born, or shall I say planted. We currently rent out our 2 RV's 3 Yurts & primitive sites , we also offer group bookings & Canna-friendly B&B options.

Come join us in Growing our Dreams!

Weekend Trip to Big Dipper Ranch camping - glamping

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Big Dipper Ranch! The property is beautiful, peaceful, and the perfect place to escape and relax. The glamping accommodations were comfortable, thoughtfully designed, and had everything we needed for a truly special experience.

What really made our stay stand out was the incredible hospitality from our host, Jud. He was so welcoming, friendly, and accommodating from the moment we arrived. He made us feel right at home while also giving us the privacy to enjoy the property. His recommendations and attention to the little details made such a difference.

Between the beautiful scenery, peaceful pond, comfortable accommodations, and amazing night skies, Big Dipper Ranch is a truly special place. We loved our stay and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and memorable getaway . We can’t wait to come back!

3 nights at The Guinea Farm, Field, and Forest

The property is nice and we really enjoyed all of the birds, Ian knows a lot about birds and it was fun to talk with him about all the different kinds. It is very close to a couple of beaches which were both lovely and relatively empty at the time we were there (a weekday in September) The cabin is cute a comfortable.

Host was the best…. The bed was more comfortable than upscale hotels, loved our private little bathroom tent on the back deck and the welcoming lights inside and outside. Cannot wait to go back!

Weekend Trip to Sitka Spruce Farms

This was the perfect site for me and my fianceé! If you are an animal lover, you will love it here. Not a fancy set up, but a much appreciated upgrade from the backpacking we did the night before. Stacey was very friendly and attentive.

1 night at Enchanted Off-Grid Mountain Ridge

I had a great stay in Alyssa's enchanted cabin. It's definitely more on the rugged end of the spectrum with bugs and a mouse or two as roommates. Still, the property and view were delightful and it was the perfect place for my pup and I to rest for the night.

This was the cutest gem for a quick night of camping without the hassle of bringing gear and setting up camp. Loved the porch, Adirondack chairs and a good fire. Filled my cup completely just to be out in nature, with a clear sky full of stars. Thank you for sharing this space. Highly recommend.

Weekend Trip to The Guinea Farm, Field, and Forest

Loved the cabin and the land. Too bad it rained all night so we were unable to get a fire going or run around. Other than that it was good and we would definitely stay again. Thanks again Ian!

The site was very calming sitting between the lake and the pond. The pavilion provided excellent cover for the storms that passed through. Charles is a very gracious host and very helpful with directing us on the amenities provided. Loved the goats and chickens that greeted us each time we went up the hill. It was an excellent camping experience for our family.

Weekend Trip to The Guinea Farm, Field, and Forest

Ian’s Wisteria Treehouse was fantastic. The property is beautiful and the spot was private. I would live in the treehouse if I could - cozy and clean and totally what I dreamed of as a kid. Super close to pretty Haven Beach and we couldn’t get enough of Ian’s chickens, guinea hens, turkeys, and geese. Will definitely be a core memory for our children!
