The tiny town of Marfa sits in West Texas, close to Davis Mountains State Park and Big Bend National Park. With a population of just 2,000, Marfa definitely has a remote, small-town feel to it. It's over 6 hours east to the state capital, Austin. Even El Paso is almost 4 hours to the west! Make sure you're stocked up on everything you need before making the drive out here.
If you've got a taste for the unexplained, you won't want to miss the chance to see the infamous Marfa Mystery Lights. Strange luminous orbs seem to dance around at dusk in the air close to Highway 90. Researchers believe the lights might be an optical illusion caused by heat haze or car headlights. Less scientifically minded viewers think there might be a paranormal explanation. No one has proved anything either way, though, so go see for yourself!
Traveling via RV? Try Tumble In RV Park, which sits a quarter-mile east of Marfa proper. Tumble In is fairly small, with just 14 sites. The site does offer full hookups, strong Wi-Fi access, and tent camping options.

Weekend Trip to Desert Gardens Oasis in Lobo, Texas
I stayed at the Top Camp Site and absolutely loved the view. The site sits above the surrounding landscape, with a huge panoramic view across the desert and mountains in the distance. Sunrise and sunset were beautiful, but I also just enjoyed sitting at camp and watching the light and colors change across the landscape.
The whole property has a wonderfully quirky, one-of-a-kind personality — giant chess pieces, a go-cart speedway, handmade signs, a desert teepee and all kinds of unexpected things to explore. It feels like someone has been having fun creating their own little desert world.
Definitely follow the host's directions rather than relying entirely on GPS. The final approach is on a dusty, bumpy dirt road, but I had no trouble with it in dry conditions.
If you're looking for a polished RV resort, this isn't that — and that's part of its charm. It's a unique, remote West Texas camping experience with a fantastic view. I'd happily stay at the Top Camp Site again.

Nice quiet spot near the lake, although it was too cold to kayak in the morning before I was on my way out. Note it is a couple of miles to the lake, but it’s a pretty spot to be. DeMarco was quick to answer questions and help me gent set up with water and electric. I have a Truck Camper so I don’t hook up directly to gray or black, but it was very easy to dump right at the spot.

This place was quiet! They have restroom facilities that are the best I’ve seen so far. Super clean! Management her was amazing. Weekend Trip to Camp Davis RV Park
My wife and I loved tent camping here. Perhaps more suited for RV and van campers because of how close the sites are, but it was ideal for our situation. Perfect location for both Marfa and Fort Davis activities. Joy was an excellent host and always made sure we were taken care of. The clean bathrooms, warm showers, and free WiFi were the perfect creature comforts after our days outdoors. Early in the morning we could see deer and javelina’s near the property which is a plus for us. Would very much recommend to others and if you’re tent camping don’t overlook the advantage of being right outside the state park (like 10 minutes), but with more accessible comforts for a better nights rest.
