In the early 1900’s an iconic red barn was built near the hilltop along the road between the old Mt. Zion community and Collinsville. Later in the 1900’s, the land was mostly abandoned by its owners, but not by the local fishermen! They knew its woodland fishing pond never dried up, and so was able to support a better population of fish. They also dumped a cornucopia of old motorcycles, cars and farm equipment in the front field. What else were you supposed to do with scrap metal in North Texas horse country?
In 2002 the Holtzman family purchased the 35 acre tract of land. They dug a front pond for swimming and paddling, buried the scrap metal (although occasional bits of history still work their way up!), restored and brought horses back to the barn, and began consulting with local biologists about supporting native wildlife.
April Holtzman launched Camp Tonkawa Outdoor Learning Center on the property to provide a beautiful, safe place for families to explore and learn about nature. Camp Tonkawa continues to host overnight and day camps with educational programing organized around various themes including: Native American culture, nature awareness, basic camping skills, primitive survival, organic gardening, herbology, outdoor cooking, western days, and horsemanship. We also host field trips and frequently conduct Girl Scout journeys for all levels in the "It's Your Planet, Love it!" series.
Due to Covid-19, which limited working with groups for our educational programing, we joined Hip Camp where families who could isolate in nature together on our property.

I have deer that sleep in my front yard, opossums, 600 bird species, and my favorite… the armadillos! We offer Kayaking on the property for a fee. We have a beautiful Hammock Garden free for guests to kick back and relax. Texoma Water Taxi is a text away to give guests a ride anywhere on the lake including restaurants. Rock-N A Ranch is roughly 20 minutes away and offers horseback riding. The Cabins and Campsites are within walking distance from each other but far enough away to create that illusion of privacy. We do have a neighborhood close by but you can’t see or hear them due to the woods. In my travels, I try to bring back something I’ve seen or learned to help improve the guest experience and environment. You’ll notice little touches of Asia, Mexico, and even Hill Country Texas! We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and treat every guest like family. We’re always a text away! You’ll see us out and about on our golf carts. I loved the way the cabins were spaced out enough for privacy. The grounds were nice. The only recommendation I have is to have the guest that are traveling with pets pick up their pets waste. I seen plenty of pet owners walk their dogs to use the bathroom but not pick up after them. Other than that it was great

Paradise at Texoma gave my 18-year-old pup, Chloe (“Chlo Money”), and me a trip I’ll never forget. She was recently diagnosed with cancer, and this was our last adventure together before I have to say goodbye.
We traded camping for glamping, and I truly couldn’t have picked a better place. We spent our days relaxing under the stars, eating great food, letting her enjoy the lake, and making memories I’ll carry with me forever.
Thank you, Paradise at Texoma, for giving us the perfect place for one final adventure together. It meant more to me than words can express.

Great location! Very close to the lake. I had a blast paddle boarding. Sunsets are amazing. Kasitas are small but comfortable with the a/c. Took my pups and I was mindful of picking up their poop and keeping them on a leash. Only wish others had done the same. Other than that a 10/10!!!

We had such a wonderful stay! The grounds were beautifully maintained, the bathrooms were clean, and the cabins were so cozy and comfortable. One of our favorite parts was sitting on the patio, listening to the rain and watching the water. The sunrises and sunsets were absolutely spectacular and honestly made the trip worth it all on their own. We also loved exploring the local town; everyone was incredibly welcoming, and we enjoyed some of the most delicious classic Southern meals. This place was an amazing value for the price, and we’re already looking forward to coming back very soon!

There is so much to do at Adventure Creek Camp, and the setting is beautiful. Debbie is so thoughtful with the details she puts into decorating and the amenities. You have to see it for yourself. You can go on a hunt counting cows, counting swings, counting wind chimes, or sit by the fire and enjoy the quiet. The place is so unique, but I don't want to give away what they have to offer at Adventure Creek Camp, so check it out for yourself.

We had an amazing time during a wintery getaway during an ice/snow storm this past weekend. We had the entire cabin area to ourselves (yes I was told 100x by friends we were crazy to go to Texoma for a snow storm) and our Kabana 9 could not have been cuter. Everything you need and nothing you don’t. Staff did a fantastic job making sure we had extra blankets to stay warm and jugs of water. The hosts even came by to see how we were doing on Day 2. Was a gorgeous location before and after the snow. The bathrooms were amazing and clean. We are sold and will be back again in the warmer spring weather.

Loved this spot! The view was amazing, right by the water. The cabin was cozy and the restrooms very nice, loved that there were individual restrooms/shower. The provided fire pit, sink, and grill at each site made it easy to cook campfire meals. Will definitely be back!

melissa’s spot is super cute and comfy, and she and family were very gracious and accommodating hosts despite us arriving late on xmas eve. we (2 people and an elderly dog) had everything we needed for some good rest, a campfire, and grilling a delicious dinner. melissa also had plenty of useful local tips, and WOW the breakfast sandwich was so good! would stay again 🤗

Absolutely amazing!!! I can’t wait to come back. Melissa was the best house and the property was even better than I expected. I was so comfortable, secure and felt like I was totally isolated. At the same time, I knew help or something I needed was just a text away. The fire pit made cooking a breeze, and I spent so much time in the sauna. The bathtub was amazing and fully stocked!
